I had just moved to the area and wanted to find a good local auto repair shop for common car maintenance. First visit was at the end of 2015 for fluid level check on a used car that I had bought. He checked everything and found everything to be OK. He didn’t try to sell me “some of this and some of that”. The service was quick and the price reasonable. Second visit was fall of 2016 for a state inspection, again not too long of a wait and didn’t “sell me anything extra”. He did say that I would need new brake pads on the rear before next inspection. Third visit was spring of 2017 to get new brake pads. I made an appointment and brought the car in mid-morning. After nearly an hour he brought the car into the bay, took of all four wheels, even though only the rear needed service. Then nothing happened for over two hours. I approached him to ask how things were going. Now suddenly all four discs needed to be rotated in addition to the rear pads, he didn’t know if he could get it done that afternoon, but I could come back next day to get the car. Never expected a break job to take over half a day and I said that I had to have the car that day. He then started working on it and got it done by end of the day. And then the bill… he stuck it to me. He charged 5 hours of labor, for the entire time the car was in the shop, not just the time he worked on it. Many other charges, for a total of close to $450. I was the last customer on Friday, and I think I made up for what he hadn’t earned throughout the week. I think he is a good mechanic, but his work principles leave some to be desired. I have found a new mechanic for my car maintenance.
